HAGERSTOWN — It was Senior Night at North Hagerstown on Thursday, but a sophomore stole the show.

Leah Peterson scored seven goals and added an assist to lead the Hubs past Boonsboro 12-7 in a game called with 8:57 left due to a lingering thunderstorm.

“(Peterson) is a dynamic player,” North coach Katie Eck said. “She gets everyone going.”

Peterson scored her first goal by weaving her way through the Warriors’ defense before bouncing a shot in to give the Hubs (9-1) a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes. Kayla Peterson and Madeline Palkovitz scored the first two goals.

Leah Peterson added three more goals before the end of the first half, then scored three of North’s second-half goals.

Down 3-0, Boonsboro (4-5) responded as Tori Poffenberger and Alex Green scored within a minute of each other. After another North goal, the Warriors scored twice for a 4-4 tie.

Anna Compton broke the tie off an assist from Leah Peterson, who scored the next two goals for the Hubs to put them ahead 7-4. North led 8-6 at halftime.

Palkovitz scored the Hubs’ fourth goal of the second half.

Poffenberger had two goals and two assists, and Green and Courtney Ridenour each had two goals and one assist for Boonsboro. Natalie Young also scored.

JV: Boonsboro, 8-7.
