Braves come off mat to take one from Suns, Estevez

ROME, Ga. — The Rome Braves figured out a way to get over Wednesday’s 24-2 hangover.

Five of the Braves’ eight hits went for two bases off Hagerstown starter Wirkin Estevez on Thursday, leading to a 6-2 victory over the Suns.

Rome took a 1-0 lead in the second inning against Estevez as Felix Marte hit a two-out single and scored on Cory Brownstein’s double.

The Braves added two runs in the third again with two outs.

Edison Sanchez singled and Jakob Dalfonso doubled to set up a two-run double to left by Elmer Reyes to give Rome a 3-0 lead.

Rome moved to a 6-0 lead in the fourth as Brandon Drury’s RBI double and a two-run single by Jakob Dalfonso chased Estevez. Greg Holt came on to get Hagerstown out of the inning.

The Suns got a run back in the sixth when Matt Skole drove in Jason Martinson with a single against Rome starter Rafael Briceno. Skole leads the South Atlantic League with 27 RBIs.

The Suns rallied for a run in the ninth as Cutter Dykstra doubled to drive in Bryce Ortega.
