Halfway Little League to mark 30 years with field-lighting ceremony

This year marks the 30th year of Halfway Little League baseball at Martin L. “Marty” Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.

The anniversary ceremony will be held Friday, May 4, at 5 p.m.  A field-lighting dedication ceremony will take place at 7 p.m.

The league will play the first night game at the field, beginning at 8 p.m.

Bingo event planned

Halfway Little League will hold a purse bingo Sunday, May 6, at 1 p.m. at the Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport.

Doors open at noon and light refreshments will be provided.

There will be Coach, Vera Bradley and Thirty-One bags stuffed with prizes.

There will also be tip jars, door prizes and a grand prize raffle. which includes a night at Inn BoonsBoro, a couples’ massage and Thirty-One overnight bag.

Tickets cost $25, which include 20 games of bingo.

Character Counts! at Hickory Elementary

Each month, one student from each classroom at Hickory Elementary School is designated as a Character Counts! Good Citizens of the month.

Students are nominated by classroom teachers for demonstrating one of the six pillars of character.

Students selected for this award are honored with an ice-cream sundae party and an afternoon of bingo.

The character trait recognized for the month of March was determination.

The following students were recognized:

Janell Peck, Trenton Burgey, Danh Mai, Teinaaki Simmons, Luke Mallott, Noah Caufman, Laniah Macklin, Shelby Hoflich, Austin Brown, Efrian Santiago, Kaiden Echeverry, Logan Perkins, Dakoda Mongan, Alex Huffer, Autumn WeeDon and Billy Wood. 


Parents of Washington County Public Schools students should be sure to note the following on the calendar: Schools will close 2 1/2 hours early Friday.
