Homicide of 27-year-old man in Ranson, W.Va. remains under investigation

Police seeking information about the shooting

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The homicide of a 27-year-old man and shooting of a 26-year-old woman Wednesday morning at an apartment complex in Ranson, W.Va., remain under investigation, police said Thursday.

Dontrell Tyree Curry of Ranson was found shot in the head by police at a second-floor apartment in Apple Tree Gardens Apartments in the 800 block of North Mildred Street shortly after authorities received a report of shots fired at 5 a.m.

Rachel Cooke, 26, who resides at the apartment, was shot in the arm. Two of her children who were home at the time of the shooting were not harmed, police had said.

Police Chief William “Bill” Roper said at 3 p.m. Thursday that he had not received any information from the state medical examiner’s office about a planned autopsy of Curry’s body.

Roper said several people have been interviewed about the shooting.

Investigating officer Will Henderson said anyone with information about the shooting may call the department at 304-725-2411.
