Fundraiser planned for Williamsport family

A fundraiser will be held Saturday to raise money for Greg Chider of Williamsport, who needs a bone marrow transplant.

Friends of the Chiders will hold the fundraiser at Williamsport Moose Lodge 2462.

Doors open at 5 p.m., a spaghetti dinner will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and entertainment begins at 8 p.m.

The event will feature Elvis Presley and Conway Twitty tribute artist Kevin Booth.

Tickets cost $15 per person or $25 per couple.

There will also be tip jars, raffles and desserts.

Happy birthday to Gladys Short, a lifelong resident of Williamsport, who turns 88 on Tuesday, May 1.

Motorcycle club sponsors food drive

The Leathernecks Nation Motorcycle Club will conduct a food drive to benefit Williamsport Food Bank.

Packaged and canned foods can be dropped off at Williamsport American Legion Post 202, Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport and CertainTeed Products.

The food drive will be held through Saturday, June 9, when the club’s poker run is scheduled. For more information, call Buck Shipley at 301-790-3433.

Summer exercise classes scheduled

The Washington County Recreation Department will offer summer fitness classes at 4-Star Fitness Center, 30 Milestone Drive, taught by certified instructor Donna Gamble.

The fitness workout is an hour of low-impact aerobics. Daytime classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays  from 10 to 11 a.m. from May 8 to Aug. 9. Evening classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. from May 7 to Aug. 15.

The classes cost $45 for county residents and $55 for nonresidents. The classes cost $36 for those 55 and older. To register, call 240-313-2805 or go to   

Drop-in Zumba classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The fee is $2 per class.

Purse bingo to benefit Halfway Little League

Halfway Little League baseball and softball will hold a purse bingo Sunday, May 6, at Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport. Doors open at noon and bingo begins at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

There will be Coach, Vera Bradley and Thirty-One bags stuffed with prizes.

The event also features tip jars, door prizes and a grand prize raffle, which includes a night at Inn BoonsBoro, a couples’ massage and a Thirty-One overnight bag.

Tickets cost $25, which includes 20 games of bingo.

Yard sale extravaganza set for May 12 at school

The fifth annual yard sale extravaganza to benefit the Williamsport Blue Band will be Saturday, May 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Williamsport High School football field.

The event will be held rain or shine.

The event features yard sale items, bake sale and concessions.

Donations of yard sale items (no electronics or clothing) are still being accepted.

Spaces can be rented for $15 for a 15-by-15-foot space.

PE employees collect food, money

Potomac Edison employees raised nearly $12,000 and collected 1,190 pounds of food for area food banks.

Employees at the Potomac Edison headquarters in Williamsport raised $5,144, which will benefit Food Resources Maryland Food Bank, Western Branch, at 220 McRand Court, Hagerstown.


Employees at Williamsport also collected 468 pounds of food, which was divided evenly between the Clear Spring Lions Club and the Williamsport Food Bank, at 35 W. Potomac St.
