Frank Joseph Sagi, 78, of Hagerstown, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Sept. 10, 1933, in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Paul and Julia Sagi.

He was employed by Western Maryland Railroad and CSX, retiring after 42 years of employment.

He was known as the voice of Hagerstown Speedway, where he was track announcer for 39 years, and announced at various other speedways up and down the East Coast.

In recent years, after retiring from announcing, Frank enjoyed following the race car-driving career of his son, Alan, as he raced at tracks locally and from New York to Florida.

He was a charter member of the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown, and also the Western Maryland Railroad Oldtimers Club, Eagles Club of Waynesboro, York County Racing Club and the Maryland State Auto Racing Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Elaine Sagi; one son, Alan Sagi and his wife, Debbie, of Hagerstown; granddaughter, Danielle Yost of Hagerstown; grandson, Ryan Yost of Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Sagi Jr. and Gabriel Sagi.

Funeral services will be held at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor Gerrard Fess will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
