W.Va. woman flown to Va. hospital after two-car crash

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Jefferson County woman was flown Monday afternoon to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., for injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 340 at Blair Road, police said.

Claire Dunleavy, 33, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., did not appear to have life-threatening injuries after being thrown from the Ford Explorer she was driving, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sgt. R.L. Fletcher. Fletcher said it appeared Dunleavy suffered leg injuries.

The other driver, Roger Mattei, 54, of Harpers Ferry, was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., for treatment, Fletcher said.

The crash occurred when Dunleavy turned onto U.S. 340 from Blair Road and into the path of the Dodge Dakota that Mattei was driving east on U.S. 340 toward Harpers Ferry, Fletcher said.

Dispatched at 2:16 p.m., the collision forced authorities to shut down eastbound U.S. 340 for about 40 minutes, according to Fletcher.

Fletcher said the accident was under investigation.
