PLEASANT HALL, Pa. — A Franklin County, Pa., woman died Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident at 9270 Cumberland Highway in Letterkenny Township, Pa., according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Stephanie M. Ile, 20, of Roxbury, Pa., was pronounced dead by Franklin County Chief Deputy Coroner Paul T. Reed at the scene of the 7:12 a.m. crash, police said in a news release.
The other driver — Eugene K. Stull, 67, of Chambersburg, Pa. — was taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, police said. The medical center does not release patient conditions.
Stull suffered broken ribs, a cracked sternum and a severe concussion, Trooper Brian Hupe said in a phone interview.
Stull’s 2007 GMC Yukon was off the road when police arrived, and Ile’s 2002 Kia Sportage was on the road facing south, Hupe said. Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage, he said.
Ile lost control of the Sportage, which crossed the center line and hit the Yukon head-on, the news release stated. Police said Ile was not wearing a seat belt. Stull was wearing a seat belt, according to the release.
Police were continuing to investigate.
The stretch of Cumberland Highway, or Pa. 997, where the accident occurred is a rural, tree-lined section about a mile south of where the road intersects with Orrstown and Upper Strasburg roads.
