On Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Ida Levy, beloved wife of Dr. Kenneth Levy; beloved mother of Linda McDonough and husband, Steve; and beloved grandmother of Justin McDonough and wife, Amanda, and Morgan McDonough and Michele, entered the gates of Heaven.

She also is survived by three sisters, Deloris Persaud and her husband, Mahadeo, Chiquita Gartrell and Arreta McNay; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Born Jan. 20, 1940, in Washington, D.C., Ida was the daughter of the late Virginia and Alonzo Gartrell.

She spent her productive years as a model and actress, traveling to various countries and cities to pursue her career, but was always a wife, mother and grandmother first. Ida was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and had served on the SAG Voting Committee over the last several years. Her voting input was instrumental in deciding the yearly recipients of the SAG Award. Over the span of her career, she appeared in numerous magazines, including Life magazine, and numerous movies. She continued her passion for her career up until last year.

Ida always had a zest for life, and her smile and contagious spirit were a blessing and enjoyed by everyone who met her. She will truly be missed, but her memory and spirit will live on forever in our hearts. God loves you, and so do we.

A private memorial service celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made, in her name, to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md., Critical Care Unit 4 West, for a Nursing Education Fund. The family is planning to have a memorial bench with a plaque honoring her in the beautiful outdoor garden at Meritus Medical Center.
