Hagerstown police have arrested a city man accused of pulling a handgun during a Friday morning scuffle with a police officer, the police department said in a news release.

Officers learned through an investigation that the suspect, Jarvel Fostion, 18, of 106B W. Bethel St., was staying at the Super 8 Motel at 1220 Dual Highway, Sgt. Rebecca Fetchu said in the release.

Officers took Fostion into custody without incident Friday around 11:40 p.m., she said.

Fostion is charged with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a handgun, use of a firearm in commission of a violent crime and charges related to resisting arrest, police said.

The incident happened Friday at 12:55 a.m., when police approached two suspicious vehicles that were parked at the intersection of Church and North Prospect streets, a previous news release said. When an officer approached one of the vehicles, Fostion got out and allegedly pulled a handgun, police said.

Police allege that the two scuffled as the officer waited for backup.

Fostion dropped the handgun and fled, according to the release. The gun later was recovered.
