Carl Edward Sword, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Autumn Assisted Living in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 17, 1924, in Blairs Valley, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Pearl Lulu Carbaugh Sword.

He was the owner/operator of Roto-Rooter in Montgomery County and Frederick County, Md.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Louise Buscher Sword, to whom he was married for 66 years, of Hagerstown; son, James M. Sword and his wife, Deborah, of Mount Airy, Md.; daughter, Karen M. Adams and her husband, George, of Westminster, Md.; son, Carl W. Sword and his wife, Margaret, of Frederick, Md.; sister, Mary Lou Yeager of Hagerstown; brother, Fred Sword of Hagerstown; brother, Robert Sword of Mercersburg, Pa.; brother, Charles Sword of Blairs Valley; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Daisy Fitz and Hilda Bricker.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 5 p.m. Sunday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Monday, April 23, 2012, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Sword officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Military graveside services will be provided by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
