Old recycling containers to be picked up April 23-25

April 20, 2012

Most of the new recycling containers have been delivered to Hagerstown residents as city officials will begin collecting the old 18-gallon blue and green bins early next week, according to a city news release.

Residents should set the old unneeded bins out on the curb on Monday morning and leave them there until they are collected, city spokeswoman Erin Wolfe said.

“If people want to use the new totes, and they have don’t have any purpose for the old bins, we’re collecting them,” Wolfe said.

Crews are expected to pick up the old containers on April 23 in Zones D and E;  April 24, Zones A and C; and April 25, Zones B and F.

Residents can check which zone they live in by logging onto the city’s website, www.hagerstownmd.org, and clicking “Recycling & Trash” on the right side of the screen.

All the bins, which will be recycled, should be collected by Wednesday, but that is subject to change, Wolfe said.

Residents may keep their old city-issued containers if they wish at no charge, Wolfe said.

The remaining new recycling totes are expected to be delivered to homes next week, and city officials will be addressing outstanding requests.
