Hagerstown police are searching for a city man who allegedly pulled a handgun as he scuffled with a police officer Friday morning at the intersection of Church and North Prospect streets.

Police have issued an arrest warrant charging Jarvel Fostion, 18, of 106B W. Bethel St., with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a handgun, use of a firearm in commission of a violent crime and resisting arrest related charges, according to a Hagerstown Police Department news release.

The incident occurred at 12:55 a.m. Friday, when police approached two suspicious vehicles that were parked at the intersection of Church and North Prospect streets, the release said. When an officer approached one of the vehicles, Fostion got out and allegedly pulled a handgun.

Police allege that the two scuffled as the officer waited for backup.

Fostion dropped the handgun and fled, according to the release. The gun was recovered later.

A Maryland State Police helicopter and K-9 units were called to help with the search, but Fostion was not found, the release said.

Fostion is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information may call police at 301-790-3700.
