Bakers celebrate 50th anniversary

Roger A. and Patricia Baker will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 22. 

They were married on Easter Sunday in 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hagerstown. It was 98 degrees that day. They moved to Maugansville on Good Friday, April 13, 1979. Congratulations to you both on your anniversary.

AAUW book sale

The Hagerstown Branch of the American Association of University Women is holding its annual AAUW Used Book Sale in the Arc of Washington County Building at 1000 Florida Ave.

The hours for the sale today are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturday, books will be sold at half price from 9 a.m. to noon, and for $5 a bag from noon to 3 p.m. 

Proceeds from the sale will provide scholarships for local students.

Piano recital scheduled

The students of Eleanor “Dolly” Funk will present a piano recital Sunday at 3 p.m. in the activity room at Western Maryland Hospital Center. Refreshments will follow. The public is invited.


Salem Reformed Church plans yard sale  April 28

Salem Reformed Church will hold a yard sale in its family life center Saturday, April 28, beginning at 8 a.m.  Proceeds will help defray the cost of the youth work mission trip this summer.

Food will be available for sale for lunch.

The church is at 13182 Salem Church Road, off Cearfoss Pike.

Chicken and waffle dinner

A chicken and waffle dinner will be held Saturday, April 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at  Maugansville Volunteer Fire Department.

Tickets cost $6 for adults.

The menu includes two sides and beverage. A bake sale will also be held.

Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Ham sandwich sale

The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society is taking orders for its ham sandwich sale on Thursday, May 3. 

Sandwiches cost $3 each and must be ordered by 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28. 

Pickup for sandwiches will be at the State Line Ruritan Building, off U.S. 11 north at the State Line, Pa., Community Park between 10 and 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3.    To order sandwiches, call JoAnn at 301-790-0590, or call Darlene after 6 p.m. at 717-809-9324. 

Proceeds will benefit the historical society.

Community yard sale

There will be a community yard sale at the Ruritan Community Center Saturday, May 12, from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Inside tables will cost $13, and an outside space will cost $6. Tables inside can be set up between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, May 11.

Maugansville Historical Society sale under way

The latest “My Home Town” replica series, featuring Maugansville Little League items are available thanks to the Maugansville Historical Society.
