WILLIAMSPORT — Autumn Wahler went 2-for-3 and hit a three-run homer to lead Williamsport to a 7-4 victory over North Carroll in high school softball Wednesday afternoon.

After Ariah Giles walked and Emily Taylor singled in the third inning, Wahler stepped to the plate and sent the ball over the fence in right field to put Williamsport up 6-2.

“I’ve been hitting all right lately,” Wahler said. “That was my first home run, so it feels pretty good.”

Williamsport coach Jen Finafrock praised Wahler’s work ethic.

“(Wahler) is a senior and she had been in a little slump lately,” Finafrock said. “But she’s been working really hard and she stepped up today. I’m proud of her.”

Giles went the distance to pick up the win for the Wildcats (3-8), giving up four earned runs on 11 hits.

“I thought (Giles) had a good performance today,” Finafrock said. “She put the pitches where I asked and did a good job for us.”

Williamsport took the lead in the first on an RBI single by Giles.

North Carroll responded in the top of the second inning when Gina Tolomei’s ground-rule double plated the Panthers’ first run.

In the home second, Wahler singled, moved to third on a two-base error and scored on a passed ball. With one out, Karli Grimes doubled, stole third and scored on a fielder’s choice to give Williamsport a 3-1 lead.

An RBI single by North Carroll’s Micaella Hernandez closed the gap to 3-2 in the third inning before Wahler connected on her home run in the bottom of the inning.

“Williamsport played a good game, got some nice hits and took advantage of their opportunities,” North Carroll coach Lloyd Ford said.

Tolomei hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to pull the Panthers (9-3) to within 6-3.

Williamsport got that run back in the bottom of the sixth when Sarah Kindle’s double plated a run.

Ashlynn Shaffer had an RBI single in the seventh inning for North Carroll.
