Mail Call - April 18

April 18, 2012

“I’d like to know the age of the — probably a whippersnapper — who put in the quote that you shouldn’t be allowed to vote, maybe when you’re 80 or so. I’ll put my gray head, wise old brain, up against anybody, 80, 90, 100, as to the issues, how to vote, when to vote, what to do, etc. Come on, now, age discrimination for us? Don’t we have enough already because we are seniors?”

— Hagerstown

“It would be very helpful if The Herald-Mail would run one article for the citizens of Washington County, explaining all the various recycling programs that are available, in detail, including prices and locations for each. We’d appreciate it very much.”

— Clear Spring

“I’m the Korean veteran from 1950. I would like to say to the people who are going to vote, Mitt Romney, what is he going to do for the poor people? What is the president, people running for president going to do for the people? That’s what the people need to consider. What are they promising us? Before you vote for that man, check it out.”

— Hagerstown

“This is to all the parents, fathers and brothers, sisters, whatever, all kinds. Please keep your children at home when they have head lice. My little grandson had them twice. I think this is ridiculous, and we can’t afford the stuff that you have to use to clean their hair. So please take them home, keep them home, take care of them yourself, because this is awful. Where’s the health department ... ? The next time my little grandson comes home with them, I’m going to report you to the health department.”

— Clear Spring

“I’m just calling in regards to the individual from Waynesboro, Pa., who wanted to know if — Mitt Romney had five children, and if any of them were in the service. What’s it matter? They’re not running for president. I’m curious; were you ever in the service, or are you all just a blowhard?”

— Hagerstown

“This call is concerning all the people who keep calling in complaining about Obamacare. I hope they never have a catastrophic illness where they need help. ... They’re the same conservatives that say we have all these great lower taxes than other countries, but these other countries do provide health care. But yet they don’t want it here in America. ... The caller who says your kids aren’t kids when they’re 26, a lot of kids go to college, and they still need health care. ... A lot of people have to have master’s degrees and become doctors and other things, and they need health care.”

— Hagerstown

“I’m just wondering, verbal abuse, what does that entail? Because I have someone calling here saying that I owe a bill that I don’t owe, and they are very, very verbally abusive. I mean, they are downright nasty, and sometimes cursing, and I want to know if there’s something that I can do about it. Who would I call?”

— Hagerstown

“I would like to thank the Sharpsburg Little League for all their efforts in putting the lighting ceremony together for last night. It was a wonderful display of our Sharpsburg patriotism, and organization, and I really do appreciate that. It was fun even to reminisce and go down that memory lane, if you will. So thanks so much, and for everybody’s hard work. It was a wonderful event.”

— Sharpsburg

“If Jesus were a Democrat today, I am sure that there would be those who would make all that he stood for and all the good that he did for mankind to look as though that they were works of the devil, just as they do daily when they speak of our president. We all know that wasn’t true in his time on Earth, and it is not true now, when they twist and spin facts to make it look like he doesn’t care and isn’t doing anything to help all of us, and make our country safe and more productive for all Americans.”
