WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Kids and families from across Franklin County are invited to celebrate YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Waynesboro Area YMCA.
This year, more than 1,900 YMCAs will be participating in YMCA Healthy Kids Day nationwide.
YMCA Healthy Kids Day activities at the Waynesboro Area YMCA’s day-long event include dance demonstrations, tours of fire trucks and ambulances, the MedSTAR helicopter and swimming, crafts, story time and an obstacle course.
Parents can get connected, too, by participating in activities with their kids and receiving free YMCA brochures with tips on raising healthy kids.
The event is free and open to the public.
“We know that when the school year ends, many kids lose exposure to activities that keep them moving and learning. Healthy Kids Day will help parents begin thinking early about what their kids need to stay physically and intellectually active in the summer,” Tanja Koons, child care director at the Waynesboro Area YMCA, said in a news release.
Participants will be offering vision screenings, hearing screenings, fire safety, fingerprinting, demonstrations, obstacle course, free literature and give-a-ways.
Registration for summer programs, such as Day Camp and Kinder Kamp, also will take place on April 28.
