Mail Call - April 17

April 17, 2012

“Hey, Ric Dugan’s photos of the tractor-trailer accident on 81 are really spectacular, worth more than a thousand words.”

— Hagerstown

“My wife and I worked 45 years. No boats, no campers, no vacations. We have our house paid for, we have two cars paid for. Now you want me to pay for someone else’s house, that enjoyed all of the above and did not pay them off. How can I enjoy my retirement?”

— Hagerstown

“You know, I’m reading Mail Call Tuesday morning here on April 10, and I couldn’t believe the first article I read was about President Obama using the stimulus for everything but what it was supposed to have been used for, and that’s a lie. He doesn’t specify he was going to take care of the housing situation, and this guy said that’s what it’s supposed to be used for. He should do a little bit of thinking, positive thinking, before he writes in the paper, because that’s wrong.”

— Hagerstown

“The Republicans blame President Obama for gas prices. The U.S. is producing more oil than in U.S. history and using less oil in the last 11 years, but the oil keeps going up. That’s because the oil companies are not regulated. Remember Republicans saying ‘Drill, baby, drill, don’t regulate?’ Well, this is what happens when companies aren’t regulated. They do what they want. Get educated, America.”

— Hagerstown

“Let the word go out to all candidates in the November general election that voters are fed up with your robocalls prior to the primaries, and that we will not vote for anyone whose campaign uses this invasive practice that violates the peace and tranquility of our private lives and homes. Furthermore, we will vote for any candidates who support overturning the discriminatory exemption that privileged politicians assigned themselves for the Do Not Call list.”

— Hagerstown

“To the Waynesboro caller inquiring whether any of Romney’s five sons were in the military: What difference does it make? Is there a requirement that anyone that is running for a political position, that their sons are required to join the military? On your quest for that answer, why don’t you check and see if President Obama ever served in the military? To the caller stating that anyone over 80 should not be able to vote because they are incompetent enough to vote: There is no certain age which people are segregated as incompetent. You have proved that point.”

— Smithsburg

“I remember when President Obama said all you have to do is get a tune-up, inflate your tires and don’t drive so much. That way we’ll keep the energy costs down. Well, how about the Keystone pipeline, how about us doing more drilling, how about us drilling for more natural gas, using more coal — everything that he’s against? That would create a whole lot of jobs and help our country get back on track.”

— Williamsport

“I heard from President Obama’s administration that this government training program out in Las Vegas, where they spent $780,000 of our money — to mostly party, the way it sounds — President Obama is blaming it on Bush again. Is this president a leader or a blamer? You decide. What do you think would happen if he gets voted in for the — by chance — for the second term? Will he blame President Bush, or will he blame his administration that was in the first term? You decide.”

— Boonsboro

“In Frederick County, everybody, every household, has a recycling bin, and recycling is picked up once a week, and there is no charge. I think Washington County should call Frederick County and find out how they manage to do it. And even if they’re adding, say, $5 to taxes, if they did that to everybody, that would more than pay for the recycling, and people, more people, would use it because they’d figure, well, we’re paying $5, so we ought to go ahead and use it.”
