CLEAR SPRING — Give the Blazers a perfect 10.

It’s been 10 teams up and 10 teams down so far for Clear Spring’s softball team, which remained undefeated with a five-inning 10-0 victory over Brunswick in an MVAL Antietam game on a hot and sunny Monday.

Lexi Albert got the Blazers (10-0, 9-0) rolling with a three-run home run to left in the first inning. Sarah Elwood’s three-run double highlighted a five-run fifth inning that ended things.

Clear Spring finished with 13 hits to continue its torrid offensive pace. The Blazers have outscored their opponents 93-7 so far this season.

“Hitting is going to be our forte,” Clear Spring coach Ron Baker said. “When we hit, we know our pitching and our defense will be there. Hitting is contagious. When one or two start it going, everyone is into the game and wants to hit.”

Brunswick (6-5, 4-4) had opportunities to make a game of it, but could not capitalize.

In the third, Elwood gathered Brandy Stone’s two-out single in center field and gunned down Junelle Lynch trying to score from second to end the inning.

In the fourth, the Railroaders loaded the bases with no outs on an error, a single and a walk, but Blazers starter Amber Forrest got out of the jam with a fielder’s choice grounder to third (the force play was made at the plate), a strikeout and a comebacker.

“The (defense) made the plays needed, and give credit to Amber for making the pitches,” Baker said.

Clear Spring made it 5-0 in the fourth on a hit batter, Elwood’s single, Jenna Knable’s RBI groundout and an error.

The Blazers had five hits in the fifth and took advantage of two walks and an error. Sarah Blickenstaff singled in a run, Elwood hit her three-run double to the gap in left center and Albert was walked with the bases loaded to end the game.

Forrest worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out six. Freshman Kristen Mellott came on in relief in the fifth with two runners on base and struck out the only two hitters she faced.

Albert went 3-for-3 with a walk and Forrest went 3-for-4. Elwood also had two hits.
