Madeline D. Carraway, 88, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, in Portland, Ore.

She was born June 8, 1923, in Hudson Falls, N.Y., to Anna Campbell and Bernard Cronin.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, committed through love and affection to her family.

She was married to William Robert Carraway for 63 years.

Doris was an Army wife who lived in many different places. She always took great joy in her family and kept track of everyone, continually giving her support. She was the rock of the Carraway family and made sure we all knew the meaning and importance of a family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Stephen T. Carraway; and grandson, Willy Carraway.

She is survived by her 11 children, 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Her surviving children are Madeline Powell, Antoinette Benfield, William B. Carraway, Angela Carraway, Robert Carraway, Carolyn Kennedy, Larry Carraway, Barbara Brock, Kathy Bald, John Carraway and Eileen Carraway. Her many grandchildren, including Jessica Carraway, will all feel deeply the loss of a grandmother who made them feel loved and special every day in their lives.

She will be laid to rest with her husband on April 19 at Arlington National Cemetery. The Memorial Mass is at Our Lady Queen of Peace with a reception at Fort Myer Officers Club following.
