Gaither William Kline, 86, of South Point Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Sherman A. and Florence E. (Blickenstaff) Kline.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jane (Blake) Kline, Oct. 12, 2011.

He attended Wolfsville-area schools.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in theU.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church of Wolfsville and VFW Post 1936 of Hagerstown.

He was employed over the years by Fairchild Aircraft, self-employed with his father and brothers at Sherman Kline and Sons Construction, then Blake Construction Co., and retired from Bronco Construction Co.

He is survived by son, Gaither William “Bill” Kline and Mary Cline of Smithsburg; daughter, Barbara Jean Cline of Arizona; sister, Lorraine R. Barkdoll of Wolfsville; brother, the Rev. Marvin L. Kline of Baltimore; grandchildren, Jason Kline and wife, Anna, Sherry Swartz, Shelia Summers and husband, Scott, and Jeannette Doucea and husband, Shane; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


He was also preceded in death by sister, Helen E. McLucas; brother, Lawrence S. Kline; and great-grandson, Seth Summers.

Services will be Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Wolfsville, with Pastor Robert E. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Md.
