A second man has been charged in connection with a gunshot being fired Wednesday in the first block of East Lee Street in Hagerstown, city police said Saturday morning.

Eric Shaquille Baymon, 19, of 42 E. Washington St., Apt. 3, in Hagerstown was charged with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm, according to a police department news release.

Another man police believe was involved in the incident, Giancarlos Badia, 21, of 272 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, was charged previously with two counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, and one count each of using a firearm in a crime of violence and having a handgun on his person.

Officers were called at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday for reports of shots being fired in the first block of East Lee Street, police said.

When officers arrived, they found a shell casing and a small amount of blood on the sidewalk.

A two-day investigation determined that Baymon met Badia in the first block of East Lee Street to allegedly purchase narcotics, the release said.

During the transaction, Baymon allegedly brandished a handgun and tried to rob Badia, the release said.

The gun fired as the two struggled for it, police said. Both men suffered minor injuries during the fight.

The handgun was recovered, and both men were subsequently arrested.
