CLEAR SPRING — Good hitting runs in the Albert family.

Freshman left fielder Lexi Albert went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs, and junior DH Tori Albert added three hits and two RBIs to lead the undefeated Clear Spring Blazers to a six-inning 11-1 win over the North Hagerstown Hubs on Friday in an MVAL Antietam softball game.

“I was really excited,” Lexi Albert said. “I was just trying to hit it. The coaches have really helped me with my hitting. We are a really strong team this year.”

“Hitting is pretty contagious,” Tori Albert said. “Once we start hitting, we keep it going. We keep each other’s spirits up. Everyone was hitting really well and we played good defense to back it up. If we do what we need to do, then we’ll be in every ballgame.”

Freshman pitcher Kristen Mellott (4-0) allowed just one unearned run on four hits and two walks for the complete-game win for Clear Spring (9-0, 8-0).

“We know our pitching is solid,” Blazers coach Ron Baker said. “Kristen is only a freshman and she is throwing as well as anybody. She is hitting her spots and she has good velocity.”

Junior second baseman Jenna Knable had two hits and two RBIs for Clear Spring. Senior first baseman Amber Forrest added two hits.

“We continued to show everybody that we are capable of playing good defense,” Baker said. “We turned two double plays.”

Clear Spring took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when with two outs, Forrest doubled to center and scored on a single to center by Lexi Albert.

The Blazers added five more runs in the fourth by taking advantage of two errors by North (2-7, 2-6). Forrest drove in a run with a groundout, Lexi Albert hit a two-run triple and Tori Albert added an RBI single.

“Our defense didn’t show up today,” Hubs coach Amanda Fleming said. “Rachel Thomas and Lauren Harbaugh did a pretty good job on the mound. They just didn’t have any defense to back them up today. I think Clear Spring played a good game.”

The Hubs got their only run in the sixth when Emma Gist scored on an infield single by Danielle Wissinger.

The Blazers concluded their scoring with another five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of another error by North. Clear Spring got an RBI single by Morgan Purdham, an RBI double by Lexi Albert, a two-run triple by Knable and a game-ending RBI single by Tori Albert.
