Sunday is Women's Day at Ebenezer AME Church

The women of Ebenezer AME Church, 26 W. Bethel St., will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday. 

The guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. Lisa Stoner Boone, a former Hagerstown resident. The 4 p.m. service will feature guest speaker Elder Tracey Brown from Greater Campher Temple. 

The public is invited.

Book signing planned at gallery

On Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery Inc. will hold a book signing by George Petridis (“Destiny of an Artist,”) also written by Melanie Petridis and Nicholas Orfan.

There will be a question-and-answer session, and light refreshments will be provided.

The gallery is at 4 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown.

Tobacco free classes offered in Hagerstown

The Tobacco Free for Life Program is scheduled for four Mondays, April 23 through May 14, with two classes to choose from: a morning session from 11 a.m. to noon at the Washington County Health Department, 1302 Pennsylvania Ave., and evening classes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave.

Free cessation aids will be available while supplies last.

Movie night set for Saturday

Bridge of Life Church, 14 S. Potomac St., will hold Movie Night Saturday at 7 p.m.

The movie, popcorn and drinks are free.

Dixie Armstrong recognized for work

The Bridge of Life Church has recognized Dixie Armstrong with a Hidden Heroes award for her many years of teaching children.  

Spring fling set for April 21

Second Christian Church’s Pastor’s Aid Committee will hold its spring fling Saturday, April 21, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 70 E. Washington St.

The event is a semi-formal affair with sounds by DJ Tracy Gardner and will be catered by Catering to Perfection.

Tickets cost $30, which includes the dance and dinner. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Pastoral anniversary to be celebrated by church

The Greater Campher Temple, King’s Apostle Church World Ministries, 125 Bethel St., will celebrate the sixth pastoral Anniversary of Presiding Elder Darin and Elect Lady Helen Mency.

This year’s theme is “Man of God — Blow Your Trumpet” inspired by Ezekiel 33: 1-9. Archbishop C. L. Adams from Fire Filled Full Gospel Glorious Church in Baltimore will start the celebration Saturday at 4 p.m. 

The event continues Sunday at 11 a.m. with Elder Joseph Purnell, Pastor of Healing Balm Ministries, Sharon Hill, Pa. 

On Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m., Presiding Elder Sandra E. Miller, pastor of Kingdom Sanctuary Ministries, King’s Apostle Church World Ministries, Baltimore, will lead the service.

Scholarship banquet

The Hagerstown YMCA Achievers will hold its scholarship banquet Saturday, April 21, with a 6 p.m. social hour at the Bridge of Life Banquet Room, 14 S. Potomac St.

The Business Cluster students are hosting the event to raise college scholarships funds for the high school seniors. 

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for those ages 3 to 11.Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the YMCA.
