Mail Call - April 13

April 12, 2012

“Picked up the paper, and the big article there about wanting to build the stadium, and the picture and all that jazz, and I got back to the sports page, and here’s a ball player standing there with a bat on his shoulder, who just got a million-dollar contract for one year. Now you tell me why the taxpayers have to pay for a stadium.”
— Hagerstown

“President Obama several years ago signed into law the extension of the Bush tax cuts. So I don’t know how Mitt Romney can say that Obama is a president who increased taxes by the highest of any president ever in American history. It was just a complete lie. And if people are dumb enough to believe Mitt Romney, that man could end up in the White House. Obama did not raise the taxes.”
— Sharpsburg

“The county commissioners need to decide if they want to encourage or discourage recycling. The only way recycling will really work is if the cost of recycling is buried in the rate charged to all users of the county dump. A separate fee for recycling will greatly reduce recycling for a great many brackets, or a majority of the people, including this caller, who presently recycles an estimated three tons a year.”
— Washington County

“I’m calling in regards to the lady asking about the county administrator’s position. As part of being elected, there needs to be consistency within our government, and by having an administrator implementing the will of the county commissioners, that consistency can be carried on throughout the terms of the commissioners. So having an administrator there provides consistency.”
— Hagerstown

“I am calling about the last article written by Limbaugh. What was he talking about? The article was very confusing. He is either always obsessing about President Obama, or writing an article that really has no substance and is very confusing. I’m not sure why you all keep printing his articles.”
— Hagerstown

“The Cearfoss caller commenting on the brainiac Republicans is simply wrong. Republican governors were voted in by a majority of citizens in their respective states, so it is the business of the citizens of these states and none of this caller’s business. Further, the only example of voter intimidation is the Black Panther situation in Philadelphia. If this caller is referring to requiring photo IDs, then this person must not care if unqualified people vote for issues that would affect his or her life.”
— Greencastle, Pa.

“Good Friday’s Mail Call was sure full of posts that were hard to understand what the person was trying to convey, but there was one I understood all too well. Hagerstown listed a line of things President Obama has done wrong since becoming president, which could have been written by Rush Limbaugh. Whoever sent it in needs to put his own brain to work instead of buying into everything he hears or reads. We don’t need any more Bushes.”
— Greencastle, Pa.

“I’ve lived through 13 presidents, but never heard the nasty remarks made by anyone such as the left has made of anyone not agreeing with them. Free speech is OK for them, starting with Sarah Palin, and on. Mitt Romney is being castigated for being a Mormon. So is Harry Reid, but Democrats don’t mention that. Late Sen. Byrd was a member of the KKK, but Democrats kept that quiet. JFK, Pelosi, Kerry, FDR, all Demo millionaires, either married into money or inherited it. Mitt Romney worked for his.”
— Hagerstown

“Thanks to all the primary voters in the 6th Congressional District for giving me the opportunity to vote for a relatively old multimillionaire or a relatively young multimillionaire in November’s general election. We have so much in common.”
— Rohrersville
