Mitchell Ronald Akers, 18, of 109 Rachel's Court, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Washington Hospital Center.

Born Tuesday, March 8, 1994, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Richard Phillip Akers and Anne Ungvarsky Akers.

He was a senior at Smithsburg High School, Class of 2012, where he was a member of the Link Crew, Student Government Association and Latin Club, and also truly loved being on the football, lacrosse, track, wrestling and bocce teams. He also attended classes at Hagerstown Community College. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, and worked part time for the Hagerstown Suns. Mitchell especially enjoyed family vacations and hanging with friends.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Alexander James Akers and Nicholas Lee "Nieko" Akers, both of Smithsburg; maternal grandmother, Peggy Ungvarsky of Smithsburg; paternal grandparents, Bob and Verlene Akers of Hagerstown, Md.; aunt and uncle, Mary and Dave Byers of Boonsboro, Md., aunt and uncle, Michele and Jerry Mauck of Hagerstown, aunt and uncle, Maureen and Allen Grove of Smithsburg, uncle and aunt, Tony and Joy Akers of Williamsport, Md., uncle and aunt, Jeff and Dee Akers of Fort Ashby, W.Va., great-uncle and aunt, Joe and Ruth Ungvarsky of Hagerstown, uncle and aunt, Frank and Yoshi Park of Sharpsburg, Md.; girlfriend, Brittany Denham of Smithsburg; and 16 cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jim Ungvarsky of Smithsburg.

Services will be held Monday, April 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Martin S. Nocchi officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Sunday, April 15, from 1 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be at the Smithsburg Cemetery, Smithsburg.
