Md. issues Road Ready E-construction Brochure

April 12, 2012

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) has released its Road Ready E-construction Brochure for 2012, which can be found on its website at sha.md.gov.

The brochure displays a statewide listing of major projects beginning in the spring, summer, or fall of this year which can help motorists avoid construction zones.

In Washington County, there are six major projects listed in the brochure. They include three bridge rehabilitation projects on Interstate 70 between Interstate 81 and the Conococheague Creek, improvements to U.S. 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) in Funkstown out to Poffenberger Road, improvements to U.S. 40 (National Pike) in Hagerstown out to Md. 63 (Greencastle Pike), and cleaning and painting 28 bridges in the county among Interstate 70, Interstate 68, U.S. 40, Md. 34, Md. 56, and Md. 550.

More than 700 people a year die in work zone crashes across the country, according to the brochure. There has been an average of 2,600 work zone crashes each year resulting in 1,400 injuries and 12 deaths in the last 10 years in Maryland.

The brochure is updated annually, and its next update will be in the Spring of 2013.
