A batch of wet stuff came at the wrong time for North Hagerstown — and the right time for Brunswick.
As the top of the fifth inning began, a heavy rain, including some hail, descended on North, with the Hubs holding a 5-0 lead in a key MVAL Antietam Conference game on Wednesday.
It was heavy enough to make the grounds unplayable, and the game will be continued with one out in the top of the fifth inning when the teams play at Brunswick on May 2.
The date is the scheduled regular-season final day for Antietam play.
What was more unfortunate was that the pitching performance of J.T. Root will be on hold, and possibly not continued, pending pitching rotations.
Root was working on a no-hitter and had struck out eight Railroaders (7-2, 4-1).
The Hubs (8-1, 5-1) scored four times in the bottom of the second, getting one-out singles by Alex Courtney and C.J. Owings, a walk, an infield single and three more walks. North added a solo run in the third for the 5-0 lead.
