EMMITSBURG, Md. — Urbana broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth as the Hawks beat Boonsboro 14-4 on Monday at Mount St. Mary’s.

Adam Peters had a two-run single and Justin Lewis scored two runs for the Warriors (3-6).

INWOOD, W.Va. — Musselman tied the game with a run in the seventh, then won it with the help of a Daniel Boone error in the ninth.

Darrin Zombro had two hits and two walks, and Denver Luttrell drove in a run for the Applemen.

Jefferson 9, Monsignor McClancy 6

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Fraser Brown’s grand slam highlighted Jefferson’s seven-run third inning in a victory over Monsignor McClancy.

Anthony DiAmario had three hits and Andrew Grove drove in two runs for the Cougars, who benefitted from eight walks.

Minnich earns fourth WVIAC Player of the Week honor in 2012

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Shepherd University senior first baseman Nathan Minnich, a Waynesboro High School graduate, has been named the West Virginia Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Minnich hit .692 last week, helping the Rams to a 5-0 week. Minnich belted a pair of home runs and a double while raising his batting average to .531 on the season. In a sweep of West Liberty, he went 7-for-7 with six RBIs.


Rams swept by Lock Haven

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University dropped both games of a doubleheader to Lock Haven, 3-0 and 4-2.

Tricia Bettura took the loss in the opener for the Rams (26-17). She allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out three.

Two-run home runs by Alyssa Smith and Nikki Weaknecht powered Lock Haven (17-14) in the nightcap.

Taylor Bolton homered for Shepherd. Tayler Schaefer added two hits. Tiffany Biggs allowed five hits and two walks while striking out three.

Tom Shelly Memorial 5K

The Tom Shelly Memorial 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Kids Race will be held May 26 at 9 a.m. at James Buchanan High School. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the JB concession stand. Runners can pre-register before May 12 for $25, or after May 12 for $30, and will receive a tech shirt at the event. Quad State Basketball Classics

Martinsburg/Berkeley County Parks and Recreation will host three basketball tournaments for teams in gardes four through 12 on the following weekends: April 21-22; May 5-6; and June 9-10.
