Evelyn M. Lewis, 95, a lifelong resident of the Smithsburg area, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 8, 2012, from Meritus Medical Center of Hagerstown. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Born Feb. 10, 1917, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Lucy (Kendall) Pryor.
She was employed by the Cavetown Canning Factory and Gardenhour Brothers Orchards of Smithsburg.
She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Smithsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison E. Lewis, Dec. 12, 1974.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth R. Lewis, March 1, 2005; two sisters, Margaret L. Pryor and Helen V. Pepple; and four brothers, Harry Pryor, Bill Pryor, Charlie Pryor and Richard Pryor.
She is survived by a nephew and caregiver, William L. Pepple of Hagerstown; several other nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Claudia Springer and Shelly Smith.
Services will be Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Md., with Pastor Mark C. Mooney officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
