Master Gardener training program — April 10 to May 24; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Admittance into the program is based on completion of the application, a background check and an interview. Growing Vegetables Series — Tuesday, April 17 — Warm Season vegetables;  Thursday, April 26 — Container Vegetables; Thursday, May 10 — Grow the Best Tomatoes, 181 Franklin Farm Lane. Chestnut Orchard Planting Demonstration — Saturday, April 14 and 21, at 9:30 a.m. Mike Waldron is coordinating a demonstration on chestnut orchard planting at the Adams County Agriculture and Natural Resources Center. Rain Barrels and Rain Gardens — Saturday, April 28, 9 to 11 a.m. Rainwater runoff from  the roof, driveways, and other surfaces can be captured and recycled to beautify landscapes, reduce water bills, and keep streams and waterways cool and clean. Master gardeners will teach two methods to harvest rainwater through the use of rain barrels and rain gardens. The class costs $10. To register, call 717-263-9226.

To reach the Washington County Extension office, drive about seven miles south of Hagerstown from the I-70 exit onto Sharpsburg Pike.
The office is in the Washington County Agricultural Education Center complex.

From Hagerstown, take Interstate 81 north to the U.S. 30 east exit. Take the first road to the left, which is Franklin Farm Lane.
