Host Wildcats win twice in Wadel Classic

PREP BASEBALL

WILLIAMSPORT — Williamsport won a pair of games on Saturday in the Wadel Easter Classic.

The Wildcats held off Keyser 8-4, as Brendon Colliflower picked up his first win of the season.

Brandon Allen, Zach Lucas and Tyler Nally had two hits and two RBIs each for the Wildcats.

* Tyler Byers and Ryan Boward combined for a four-hit shutout in Williamsport’s 10-0 win over St. Maria Goretti.

Lucas had three hits to lead a 13-hit attack for Williamsport (5-3). Nally, Lucas, Brandon Toloso, Nick Sauble and Brandon Greene had two hits each. Greene, Lucas and Nick Williams each had two RBIs.

* Goretti (8-6) disposed of South Hagerstown 13-4, scoring in every inning but the fifth.

Jake Moats, Kevin Proctor and Adam Blenckstone had two hits each for the Gaels. Moats drove in five runs and Proctor drove in two.

* South (4-5) got a complete-game pitching performance from Jordan Dickens, who struck out seven and walked only one in a 10-0 victory over Keyser.

The Rebels pounded out 14 hits, with Tim Kitchens rapping out three hits and Airin Martin, Sean Przywieczerski, Kevin Johnson and Colby Johnson each adding two.

Hancock Easter Classic

HANCOCK — Vinny Foreman and Dylan Finney combined on a no-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and Hancock blanked Broadfording, 14-0.

Foreman, Garrett Wiles, Hunter McKinley, Nate Souders and Tanner Faith had two hits each for the Panthers.

* Garrett Blank had three hits, including two home runs, to lead Saint James past Broadfording, 22-3.

Bobby Leatherman had four hits, Nico Gentile and Seung-Gon Yoo had three hits each and Patrick Morris, Ryan Abbott and Alec Wingerd had two hits each for the Saints.

Christian Kehr and Joe Garrish had two hits each for the Lions (0-7).

* McKinley had three hits and Jordan Leach had two RBIs for Hancock (5-2) in a 7-4 win over Saint James.

Wingerd, Brett Vitkun, and Gentile had two hits each for the Saints (4-5).

Mountain Ridge Holiday Classic

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Smithsburg finally punched its way into the victory column with a 16-7 win over Allegany.

After being no-hit by Mountain Ridge in a first-game 11-0 loss, the Leopards (1-8) broke loose for 16 hits and finished off the Campers with seven runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth.

Brad Spickler had four hits and three runs, and Alec Hedjuk, Devin Baker and Garrett Spinks each had two hits for Smithsburg. Spinks also had three RBIs.

Seidel Easter Classic

THURMONT, Md. — Boonsboro held a 4-3 lead after two innings, but Frederick took advantage of an inexperiened Warriors pitching staff to roll to a 19-9 win in six innings at Catoctin.

Boonsboro (3-5) was missing six regulars, including a couple hurlers. The Warriors gave up 13 hits and 12 walks.

Dustin Gregory had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, and Eric Bitner doubled and singled for Boonsboro.

The Warriors play Urbana in the Classic on Monday at Mount St. Mary’s.

Berkeley Springs splits two games in Border War

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Host Berkeley Springs fell to Northern Garrett 8-2 before no-hitting Salisbury (Pa.) 7-1 behind pitchers Tyler Holt and Brady Spielman.

Northern Garrett scored five runs in the first inning to put the Indians (6-8) in a hole early. Berkeley Springs managed just three hits off Huskies pitcher Jared Fike, while the Indians gave up eight walks.

Berkeley Springs bounced back by scoring six runs in the first inning against Salisbury, and Holt and Spielman took over. Holt worked a perfect first three innings, striking out three, and Spielman sturck out eight and walked two over the final four innings. Spielman also had three hits.

Scott Hessler had three hits and two RBIs, Kyle Appel had two hits and two RBIs, and Kaleb Athey hit a two-run single for the Indians. Spielman and Hessler were named to the all-tournament team.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Williamsport High School graduate Travis Sluger went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, and Nash Hutter added three hits and four RBIs to lead Shepherd University over West Liberty in the West Virginia Conference.

Shepherd (22-11, 14-4) scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take control. A three-run homer by Sluger and a solo homer and three-run double by Hutter keyed the outburst.

Michael Lott had three hits and two RBIs, and Jake Cook added three hits for the Rams. Aaron Scoville drove in three runs. Paul Hvozdovic (8-2) struck out seven in five innings.

Scott Castilow went 3-for-4 and Taylor Snare homered for West Liberty (6-19, 4-12).

HCC at Goucher Invitational

TOWSON, Md. — Hagerstown Community College had several placewinners at the Goucher Invitational.

For the HCC men, Mike Salguero placed third in the 10,000 (34:04.78), Kenny Kopp was third in the high jump (6-2 1/4), Rodney Flora was sixth in the 400 (51.45) and Brandon Horning was eighth in the 1,500 (4:15.95).

For the HCC women, Jasmine Reynolds was fourth in the 100 (13.20) and seventh in the 200 (28.04), Kerri Gassior was fifth in the 1,500 (5:29.26), Paige Goebelbecker was fifth in the 3,000 (11:48.12) and Amber Elliott was sixth in the triple jump (32-8 1/4).
