Waynesboro police officer fires at truck after being struck

Officer was treated and released at Waynesboro Hospital

A Waynesboro Police Department officer was struck by a pickup truck during a traffic stop Thursday night and fired at the fleeing vehicle, Waynesboro police said Friday. Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the unit block of Philadelphia Avenue when the Waynesboro officer was struck by a Dodge pickup truck leaving the rear entrance of the Rutters Farm Store at 141 S. Potomac St., according to a police news release.The officer fired at the truck, the release said.The unnamed officer who was struck was treated at Waynesboro Hospital for his injuries and released. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, and there were no passengers in the truck, police said. As protocol requires for the Waynesboro Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police were immediately contacted to investigate the officer-involved shooting, the release said.A trooper from the state police barrack in Chambersburg said Friday night that no further information was available as the investigation continued.
