HAGERSTOWN — Clear Spring’s Amber Forrest pitched a no-hit shutout Thursday to lead the Blazers to an 11-0 victory over North Hagerstown in an MVAL Antietam softball game that was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule.

“That was my first (no-hitter) of the season,” Forrest said. “The defense was really behind me today.”

Needing only one out to complete the no-no, Forrest pitched to North’s Laken Feeser, who made contact with the pitch and sent it trickling toward the pitcher’s mound. Forrest got control of the ball after bobbling it and lobbed it up to first baseman Jenna Knable to record the final out.

“The last out scared me a little bit,” Forrest said. “But (Knable) made the play. I owe her one for that.”

Forrest faced just one over the minimum for the game. She had seven strikeouts and allowed just one walk.

“(Forrest) threw the ball well. No one hit her hard today,” Clear Spring coach Ron Baker said. “She hit her spots and did everything well today.”

Forrest helped herself out offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Her two-run single in the top of the fifth gave the Blazers an 11-0 lead.

“When everyone is hitting, it makes it a lot easier,” Forrest said.

Clear Spring (7-0, 6-0) racked up 15 hits in the game, including seven extra-base hits.

Lexi Albert got the scoring started for Clear Spring in the second inning with a two-run triple that gave the Blazers a 2-0 lead. An RBI double by Forrest and a two-run double by Haley Thorn put the Blazers up 5-0 in the third.

“Our hitters made good contact today, made good decisions and were patient,” Baker said.

Clear Spring put together a six-run rally in the fifth, highlighted by Tori Albert’s two-run double, Sarah Elwood’s RBI double and Forrest’s two-run single.

Next up for the Blazers is Wednesday’s showdown with Smithsburg (8-0, 6-0).

“With the game on the line, we like Forrest to be in there,” Baker said. “But we’ll make that decision of whether she starts or not on Tuesday.”
