April 04, 2012

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Frostburg man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for carjacking his 71-year-old neighbor.

Jonathan Bittner, 31, apologized in court Tuesday for hurting his neighbor and to his own family.

The Times-News of Cumberland reported that the victim told police Bittner entered his home early April 28 and struck him on the face and head while demanding cash.

Police said Bittner then forced the man into the victim’s car, got behind the wheel and crashed it on Interstate 68.

They said Bittner fled, leaving the victim to drive his disabled car to a Cumberland exit.

The victim was found by a passer-by, bleeding and dressed only in his underwear and a T-shirt.
