Fire marshal: Blaze that damaged vacant house on Maugansville Road was intentionally set

April 02, 2012

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said an intentionally set fire caused $35,000 in damage to a vacant house Saturday at 13257 Maugansville Road.

Deputy Chief Jason Mowbray of the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday morning that the fire was set with an “ignitable” liquid.

He said evidence that was gathered at the scene has been sent to a crime lab in Pikesville.

The fire at the two-story, wood-frame house was reported by a neighbor and passersby at 2:23 p.m., according to a fire marshal’s office news release. The fire started in a second-floor bedroom, the release said.

It took 50 firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control, the release said.

Firefighters from Maugansville, Longmeadow, Hagerstown, Halfway, Williamsport and Greencastle, Pa., responded to the scene.
