Haven Lutheran Church is celebrating Easter with the following worship services:   

 Thursday, April 5 —Maundy Thursday service, including the stripping of the altar, 7 p.m.

 Friday, April 6 —Good Friday service, 7 p.m.

 Sunday, April 8 —Sunrise Easter celebration, 6:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery

 Sunday, April 8 —Easter celebration service, 9:30 a.m. at the church

The church is at 1035  Haven Road in Hagerstown.

Cinderella Shop this month

Zion United Church of Christ, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown announces the sixth annual Cinderella Shop from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday in April. Clean, gently used prom gowns are available for purchase for $25 each. Only cash or checks written to REACH are accepted. All proceeds go directly to REACH.

Access to the shop is via the alley off East Avenue at the rear of the church.

Donations of clean, gently used prom gowns are also accepted. Take a moment to clean out your closets and help others by donating to the shop.
Easter egg hunt Saturday

Shiloh United Methodist Church will host an Easter egg hunt for those  ages 13 and younger at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Easter egg hunt, interactive story

The community is invited to enjoy an Easter egg hunt at 4 p.m. Saturday at Paramount Brethren in Christ Church. There will also be free hot dogs and an interactive story time. Everything is free and all are welcome. The church is at 19106 Longmeadow Road in Hagerstown. For more information, go to

Bake sale

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Rescue Mission will host a bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rescue Mission on Church Street in Hagerstown. For more information, call 301-790-3843.

Son-Rise Service in Paramount

The Paramount Area Churches will hold the annual “Son-Rise Service” at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, April 8, at Paramount Baptist Church on Marsh Pike. If rain is imminent or the temperature is below freezing, the service will be held indoors. A light breakfast will follow the service. The community is invited. Easter cantata

The Adult Choir of Shiloh United Methodist Church will present the cantata “Because He Lives” at the 9:15 a.m. service on Sunday. All are welcome.

Jacobs Brothers to perform

The Jacobs Brothers of Dillsburg, Pa., will be at  Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, 17426 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12. Free will offerings will be accepted.
The Jacobs Brothers are dedicated to spreading the Gospel through music.

A weekly loss of 2.4 pounds made Henry the Thinner Winner of the week. Thelma was the runner-up. Mary completed her program based upon an article written by Dr. Nick Yphantides, author of “My Big Fat Greek Diet.” Meetings are held Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in is at 8:45 a.m.

Losses for the week were 41 3/4 pounds. Millie Toms and Wanda Gerstner were the best TOPS losers. The best KOPS losers were Lu M. Joan Budny, Dorothy Smith and Mildred Hluchy. Jean Hart won the Ha! Ha! Prize, and the no-no snack is ice cream. Trudy Heather won the monthly Get R Done for TOPS; Joan Gilbert won for KOPS. Janice Frye presented the program on six steps to weight loss: acknowledge mistakes, have fun on life’s journey, encourage others, set goals, stay focused and be positive.

The chapter meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m. The meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Today’s program will include installation of officers and awards. An Easter bonnet contest and parade, and Secret Sisters will be revealed Monday April 9.

Women’s Club news

The public is invited to a Benefit Card Party to support the Community Free Clinic of Hagerstown. This will be at the Women’s Club at noon Wednesday, April 18. The cost is $12 and includes a luncheon. Reservations are due by Monday, April 16, and can be made by calling the Women’s Club at 301-739-0870. Any kind of card or board game can be played, or just come for lunch and support the Community Free Clinic.

The new Women’s Club cookbook will debut with a cooking class from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Women’s Club. Several members will demonstrate their recipes, and tastings will follow. Cost of the class is $12, and the cookbook sells for $15. A limited amount of cookbooks is  available. Call 301-739-0870 to reserve a cookbook or register for the class.

The public is invited to an evening of wine and cheese tasting and appetizers at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Women’s Club. The cost is $5 and includes cheese tasting from Palmyra Cheese LLC, and wine tasting from Knob Hall Winery of Clear Spring. There will also be raffles, and a silent auction of gift baskets and merchandise. To make reservations, call 301-739-0870.
