Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - March 31

Thumbs up to Michael Donmoyer, a Heritage Academy senior who has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. The 18-year-old straight-A student was selected from among 50,000 applicants.



Thumbs up to Jeremy Ellis, a Hagerstown-area resident who won $9,900 in cash and a trip to Miami as a contestant on the game show “Wheel of Fortune.” The show, which was taped in California in February, aired Tuesday night.



Thumbs up to W. Randy Smith, whose foundation this week donated an additional $600,000 for the South Berkeley Recreation Center project in Inwood, W.Va. Smith, who won a $79 million Powerball jackpot in 2010, previously committed $1.5 million for the project.



Thumbs up to Hagerstown Police Department Auxiliary Officers John Chance and Gary David, who stopped traffic so a group of 25 Coffman Nursing Home residents could cross Pennsylvania Avenue safely last week to get a free ice treat at Rita’s Italian Ice.
