Joseph Matthew Aversa, 84, of Westminster, Md., died Friday evening, March 30, 2012, at Carroll Hospice Dove House.

Born May 26, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Adelina Fertita Aversa Prano and Gaetano Aversa.

He was the husband of the late Solange Aversa, who died April 1, 2006.

Before retiring, he worked as a produce huckster in Pikesville, Md., and Stevenson, Md.

He was a proud member of St. John Catholic Church and Carroll American Legion Post 31.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He also enjoyed traveling and antiques, and was an avid duckpin bowler.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Cheryll Aversa of Westminster, and Philip P. and Kelly Aversa of Boonsboro; brother, Vincent Aversa of Severna Park, Md.; sister, Vera Lucchessi of Baltimore; grandchildren, Matthew Aversa and friend, Stevi Fulton, of Westminster, and Angel Aversa Colbert and husband, Isaac, of Damascus, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Kylee Isabella Colbert; and 24 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Salvatore and Richard Aversa; and sisters, Frances Crisafi, Sadie Glorioso and Marie Bloodsworth.

The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Interment with military honors will be at Lake View Memorial Park.
