Carl Randolph Springer, 99, a resident of Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, Pa., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Altoona Regional Hospital, Altoona, Pa.

Born Dec. 23, 1912, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Clayton and Minnie Gertrude Pittsnogle Springer.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Stine Springer, and his second wife, Jane Elenora Sterling Springer, in 2006.

He was employed by Manbeck Bread Co., Hagerstown, for 45 years until his retirement.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Gideons International, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown, and an active member at Homewood Chapel in Martinsburg.

Survivors include son, Wayne Grossnickle of Hagerstown; son, Earl R. Springer and his wife, Sheila, of Martinsburg; close companion, Wilma Smith; sister, Doris Springer of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Eva Hatton and Natalie Mills; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Randolph C. Springer; five sisters, Jackie Springer, Mildred Goetz, Catherine Garvin, Thelma Floyd and Helen Ridenour; and five brothers, Clyde Springer, Lawrence Springer, Kenneth Springer, Earl Springer and Robert Springer.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., Monday, April 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gerald McCuller officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private, per Carl's request.

A memorial service will be held at Homewood Chapel, Martinsburg, Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Gerald McCuller officiating.
