FirstEnergy Corp.'s Power Systems Institute seeks prospective utility workers

Informational session set for next week at Potomac Edison headquarters in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT — Prospective utility workers from the area will have an opportunity to learn more aboutFirstEnergy Corp.’s  Power Systems Institute at a public informational session next week.

The session will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Potomac Edison headquarters, 10802 Bower Ave., Williamsport.

Recruiters from FirstEnergy, the parent company of Potomac Edison, will provide enrollment materials and answer questions about the PSI programs planned at Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont, W. Va., and Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pa.

The two years of coursework combine classroom learning with hands-on training, and offers technical courses in electrical fundamentals and circuit analysis, along with practical skills training and general education classes.

Classes start in August, according to a news release from the utility.

Students who complete the program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in electric utility technology and will be prepared to enter the workforce as line workers or substation electricians, the release said. Graduates may potentially be hired by Potomac Edison.
