Brush fire scorches 5 acres of mountainside off Blairs Valley Road

March 29, 2012

CLEAR SPRING — About 5 acres on a mountainside off Blairs Valley Road was scorched in an afternoon brush fire Thursday, according to the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters initially extinguished most of the 3:45 p.m. blaze with water, department spokesman Capt. Zach Reid said.

Firefighters also cut trees and made a fire line around the blaze so it could be controlled and extinguished, Reid said.

It took about an hour to get the fire under control, and firefighters were still working at the scene at 7:27 p.m., Reid said.

It is unclear what started the fire, which did not damage any structures, Reid said.

The blaze started near the intersection of Blairs Valley Road and Draper Road, north of Clear Spring.
