Earth Hour to combine entertainment and information at Byron Park

It will be “Dark in the Park” for the inaugural Williamsport Earth Hour on Saturday in Byron Memorial Park.

The band Final Notice and Henri Verdel will entertain. 4-Star Athletic Complex gymnasts will perform and give away glow sticks. 

Williamsport Elementary School’s Green School will showcase its program and collect old phone books, cellphones and ink cartridges.

Those who donate items will receive a free door prize ticket for each item dropped off.

The free event includes refreshments, door prizes, drum circle and environment-friendly sponsors.

The event is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and at 8:30 p.m. the lights in the park will be turned off for one hour in support of the global initiative that calls attention to everyone’s carbon footprint. Flashlights, lanterns and lawn chairs will be permitted.

Faith Wilson takes gymnastics first place

Faith Wilson, a sixth-grader from Hagerstown, finished the regular season of competitive gymnastics with a first-place win. 

On March 10, at the Tune Up for States Meet at 4-Star gymnastics in Williamsport,    Faith, a level 7 gymnast, competed in her last regular meet of the season.

Faith is now training for the state championships meet in April at ACPR gymnastics in Churchville, Md.

Faith received a 9.100 score on vault for second place; a 9.300 on bars for first place; a 8.950 on beam for second place; a 9.300 on floor for first place; and a 36.650 all-around score for first place.

Spaghetti dinner planned Saturday

Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church, 10745 Van Lear Drive, will hold a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

The meal includes salad, roll, drink, and all-you-can-eat spaghetti. Dessert will be available for a donation.

Tickets cost $7 for adults, $3.50 for children and are free to those younger than 5.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Clothes of Hope schedule for April

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14; Thursday, April 19.; and Monday, April 23. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays, April 12 and 26; and Monday, April 16.

There is no charge for clothing. Monetary donations are accepted.

The Clothes of Hope will not be accepting any donations of clothes until April 30.

June Wiederhold celebrates 95th birthday

Happy birthday to June Wiederhold, a lifelong resident of Williamsport, who turns 95 on Saturday, March 31.


Faith Christian Fellowship to hold Easter egg hunt

An Easter egg hunt and puppet show will be held at Faith Christian Fellowship, 16726 Lappans Road Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Lunch will be included.

The event is open to those ages 1 to fifth grade.

The event will be held rain or shine.
