BOONSBORO — Maybe all North Hagerstown’s softball team needed was a weekend off.

The Hubs bounced back from Friday’s shutout loss to Linganore with a convincing 17-3 drubbing of mistake-prone Boonsboro on Monday.

North (1-2, 1-1 MVAL Antietam) racked up 15 hits, while starting  pitcher Rachel Thomas and reliever Lauren Harbaugh combined to keep Boonsboro at bay.

“Both pitchers put in good work today,” North Hagerstown coach Amanda Fleming said. “Rachel pitched some solid innings and Lauren did a good job having her back and closing the game.”

Harbaugh brushed off an 11-run outing against Linganore by striking out the side in each of two hitless innings.

“It’s good to have a short-term memory as a pitcher,” Fleming said.

Thomas allowed three earned runs over five innings of work, allowing eight hits while striking out three.

North  put together five multi-run innings, scoring five twice.

“We did a much better job at being aggressive,” Fleming said. “We put the ball in play and did a good job.”

Danielle Wissinger put North on the board with a two-run home run in the first inning.

The Hubs added four runs in the second, highlighted by Becca Amalfitano’s RBI single along with two fielder’s choices and a fielding error, to move to a 6-1 lead. The second-inning errors was one of six the Warriors committed in the game.

“We played awesome on Friday, but we came out flat starting with warm ups,” Boonsboro coach Traci Humphries said. “We still have some things to work on.”

The Warriors (1-2, 0-1) scored in the first on Tristen Hartle’s single and added two runs in the third as Natalie Tobery singled to move within 6-3.

The Hubs added one run in the fourth before adding 10 runs over the final three innings to seal their first win of the season.

“The girls came together and played a good game,” Fleming said. “It’s good to get the first win.”
