Meeting planned Thursday on land preservation, parks plan

The Washington County Department of Planning and Zoning will hold a public meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College, room 224, at the ARCC, at 11400 Robinwood Drive to hear comments from the community concerning the Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan.  

The Humane Society of Washington County is urging all dog and horse owners to attend the meeting to express their interest in one or multiple off-leash dog parks and riding trails in Washington County.

Lenten services

Lenten services will be held Monday, April 2, through Thursday, April 5, at noon at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

The speaker will be the Rev. Helen Woodard. 

A soup, sandwich, beverage and dessert luncheon will be available in the fellowship hall following the services.

The luncheons costs $6.

Christ Lutheran Church, at 216 N. Cleveland Ave., has 10 seats left for its May 19 bus trip to Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Museum in Altoona, Pa.

Haven Lutheran Church is celebrating Easter with the following worship services:

• Sunday, April 1 — Service of the Palms, 9:30 a.m.
• Thursday, April 5 — Maundy Thursday service, including the stripping of the altar, 7 p.m.
• Friday, April 6 — Good Friday service, 7 p.m.
• Sunday, April 8 — Sunrise Easter celebration, 6:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery
• Sunday, April 8 — Easter celebration service, 9:30 a.m. at the church

The church is at 1035  Haven Road in Hagerstown.

A loss of 2.4 pounds made Henry the thinner winner of the week for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446. Thelma was the runner-up.

Mary completed her program based on an article written by Dr. Nick Yphantides, author of “My Big Fat Greek Diet.”

Meetings are held Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in is at 8:45 a.m.

Easter egg hunt

Paramount Brethren in Christ Church invites the community to its Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 7, at 4 p.m. 

In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the church will serve free hot dogs. 

It will also present an interactive story time.

The event is free and the public is invited.

The church is at 19106 Longmeadow Road in Hagerstown.

Losses for the week totaled 34 1/4 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077.

The best TOPS losers were Vergie Smith and Dottie Zimmerman. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Linda Seibert and Lu M.

Nancy Itnyre was reinstated as a KOPS.  Imogene Foltz won the ha-ha prize, and the no-no snack for the week is chips. The chapter held a Chinese raffle.
 

The chapter meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown.  Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m. The meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
