Ballet class to be offered at HCC, beginning April 9

The Continuing Education and Community Services Division at Hagerstown Community College will offer a class titled “Beginning Classical Ballet.”

It will be held on Mondays, from April 9 to June 18, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the new dance studio at Kepler Center.

The beginner’s level course will help participants strengthen their bodies, increase flexibility and increase their appreciation of ballet as viewers.

The instructor, Karen Carpenter, has been a professional ballet teacher and choreographer for more than 35 years. She was a former member of the City Center Joffrey Ballet Company, where she served as a personal assistant to Robert Joffrey.

She founded the Alfred Ballet Company in Alfred, N.Y. This summer, she will be teaching for the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.

The course fee is $85.
