Eliza Byrd recently donated a portion of her hair to the Locks of Love program, which provides wigs to children who have lost their hair due to illness.

Eliza, 3, lives in Boonsboro with her family and attends preschool.

Tina Byrd, Eliza’s mom, said the following in an email:

“So let me tell you a little about Eliza,” she wrote. “She is a 3-year-old bundle of energy who loves life and is charismatic. She loves to play dress- up in her princess gowns and is a very creative little artist.

“This act of kindness all began when we talked about cutting her hair because it was getting too ‘tangled.’ She associated this with the movie ‘Tangled,’ and liked the idea of her hair turning brown, as Rapunzel’s did in the movie.

“Her dad, J.R., and I decided that we wanted it to be for a worthy cause if we were going to cut a significant amount.

“So we got on the Locks of Love website and showed her pictures of other kids with no hair that she could help.

“She became even more excited to ‘share her hair’ with other kids who were struggling to grow their own. We are so proud of the choice Eliza made to pay it forward!”
