John H. Zimmerman, 82

John H. Zimmerman, 82, of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 4:02 a.m. at his home.

Born July 15, 1929, in Little Cove, Pa., he was the son of the late Herman F. and Etta Mae (Zimmerman) Zimmerman.

John was a dairy farmer for 40-plus years in Little Cove, and he also was a construction worker and mechanic for C. Wm. Hetzer Co. of Hagerstown, Md., for 16 years.

He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church of Little Cove, where he served on the church cemetery board and was a former church council member.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris A. Keefer Zimmerman, whom he married March 2, 1951; a daughter, Barbara A. and husband, Ralph L. Schriever, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two grandchildren, John L. Schriever and his wife, Ashley K., and Tracy L. and her husband, Seth Deneen; and three great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by a son, John H. Zimmerman Jr., who died Dec. 13, 2000; and a sister, Leona M. Zimmerman Caldwell.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Rev. W. Allen Reed officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery of Little Cove.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
