Peterson sisters lead way for Hubs

GIRLS LACROSSE

THURMONT, Md. — Leah Peterson had six goals and an assist to lead North Hagerstown to a 16-11 season-opening win over Catoctin on Thursday in the MVAL Antietam.

Kayla Peterson had five goals and an assist, Maddie Palkovitz had two goals and two assists, Anna Compton had two goals, Deanna Brunner had a goal and Emma Moss made 15 saves for the Hubs.



BOYS LACROSSE

Brunswick 19, South Hagerstown 1

Tyler Bradshaw scored on an assist by Jordan Foster for the Rebels’ only score in a season-opening loss to Brunswick.

Drake Kessell made 14 saves for South.

PREP BASEBALL

St. John’s Catholic 13, St. Maria Goretti 2

Josh Moats had two hits and drove in both of the Gaels’ runs, but St. John’s Catholic Prep ripped 14 hits off Goretti pitching and put together three innings with three or more runs.

The Gaels fell to 2-3.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Hunter Vance, Molly Seibert and Johnna Williams combined on a five-inning, one-hit shutout as the Eagles blanked the Indians.

Abby Crawford had two hits and Williams hit a two-run single for Hedgesville (3-1), which did most of its damage on walks.
