Stolen credit card used to buy computer

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — A Hustontown, Pa., woman told Pennsylvania State Police that someone recently used her credit card to buy a laptop computer.

The incident was reported Sunday, when the woman informed police that $930 was charged to her credit card to purchase the computer through an electronics website, according to a state police news release.

Troopers said the woman stopped the transaction.

Franklin County Emergency Services report

The following incidents were reported Tuesday by Franklin County (Pa.) Emergency Services:

  • At 7:07 p.m., an all-terrain vehicle accident was reported in the 1900 block of Country Road in Guilford Township.
  • At 11:16 p.m., a brush fire was reported in the 1100 block of Shatzer Road in Greene Township.

Electrical failure blamed for house fire in Halfway


HALFWAY — An electrical failure in an outdoor light was the source of a fire that caused $50,000 in damages to a home late Monday in Halfway, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Firefighters were called at 11:12 p.m. for a report of a fire at 10815 Oak Forest Drive, according to a news release from the fire marshal’s office.

It took about 25 firefighters from Halfway, Funkstown and Williamsport 15 minutes to bring the fire under control, the fire marshal’s office said.

An investigation showed that the cause of the blaze was an electrical failure in a motion-activated light on the front of the garage, the release said.

The fire caused $40,000 in damage to the structure and $10,000 in damage to the contents, the release said.

Arrest warrant issued for Pa. man in assault

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Harrisonville, Pa., man who police allege struck a woman Sunday on Camp Ridge Road in Licking Creek Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Lance Joshua Mellott, 26, of 1205 Camp Ridge Road, was charged in the warrant with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment, according to a news release from state police.

Troopers allege the incident occurred while Mellott and the woman were traveling to his residence early Sunday. The woman was struck on the face and head with closed fists, police said.

10 gallons of gasoline stolen from tractor

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police said they were looking for the person who stole about 10 gallons of gasoline from a tractor earlier this week in Bethel Township.

The incident occurred Sunday or Monday near the intersection of Pigeon Cove and Quarry Hill roads, according to a news release from state police.

The owner of the tractor told troopers that the gas was valued at about $37.50.

Camper fire spreads to shed  Tuesday in Pa.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — A camper fire spread to a shed early Tuesday in Montgomery Township, Pa., said Fire Chief Donald “Dusty” Stoner of the Mercersburg, Montgomery, Peters and Warren Volunteer Fire Co.

Stoner said the fire was reported at 1:39 a.m. in the 11300 block of Anne Lane. The fire started at the camper and jumped to a nearby shed, he said.

Firefighters spent about 80 minutes at the scene, Stoner said.

He said the cause of the fire would be investigated.
